Joel Wintle has spent several years with us as a Production Operative, learning how our instruments are put together. His skill levels have steadily increased so we’ve promoted him to Test and Installation, congratulations Joel! He also recently completed his Electrical Installation apprenticeship, so its double congrats.
Steve from marketing quizzed Joel about his thoughts on the new role:
SG: Joel, what made you aspire to being a Test and Installation Engineer?
Joel: I’ve always been interested in what the instruments are actually used for, and this gives me the opportunity to meet the users, helping me understand the important science that they are doing. I also love to travel, and this will be an important part of the new role.
SG: OK, so what do you think about travel to exotic locations, such as Nottingham, UK (a key British Geological Survey site)?
Joel: I’ve always wanted to visit Nottingham! But seriously, I do know that the labs are spread around the world and I’ll happily go wherever the job takes me, from Nottingham to Newfoundland.
SG: You’ll be spending a lot of time with Earth scientists, do you plan to invest in some high-tech trekking sandals and a Patagonia fleece?
Joel: Hah! Luckily, I am quite an “outdoorsy” kind of person, as you can see from the photo, so I think I will fit right in.
